Tips and Tricks on how to Transition into Working from Home

We don’t need to tell you that the world is ever changing right now. We’re all living it. But one of the main things that people are transitioning to is working from home - which may be harder than some people realized. So, we wanted to write a post with helpful tips we’ve learned about making this transition. From Calla - a pro who works from home year round. To Leanne - newly transitioning to working from home for the first time.

Here’s 10 helpful tips to get you started:

  1. Keep a Routine - it’s important to remember that you are at work and keeping a regular routine helps you stay on track and motivated to get your work done.

  2. Space away from Distractions - we get it. The appeal of working from your recliner or bed is strong. But don’t do it! Your brain has already associated those places with other activities and working isn’t one of them. Make sure to create a space that is just for working so you can focus on the task at hand and not be distracted by other things.

  3. Wear Cozy Clothes - we won’t take this one away from you. One of the best things about getting to work from home is not having to decide what professional outfit you need to put on every day. Embrace your ability to wear something comfy to work.

  4. Get a Comfortable Chair - we can’t stress this enough! This is more important than some people realize. Not every chair in your home is meant to be sat in for 8 hours. Find one that will give you the support you need to make it through your work day comfortably.

  5. Use your Coffee Maker & Cute Mug - if your office provides coffee for you or if you have the routine of stopping by the coffee shop before starting work, you’ll need to adapt to making your coffee from home. Order your favorite coffee online, get yourself an adorable mug to go with it, and enjoy your coffee from the comfort of your home. Added bonus: it’s cheaper than buying it from Starbucks.

  6. Get a Pair of Blue Light Glasses - these are a lifesaver. Now more than ever you will be working on your computer to stay connected and get your projects done. To help prevent headaches and eye sores from excessive computer work, we highly recommend getting yourself a pair of these! We both have been wearing them for years and couldn’t imagine working without them.

  7. Invest in a Headset - wireless or with a cord it doesn’t matter. You’ll want something that gives you that hands-free option while attending meetings or multitasking. Give your neck, shoulder and hands a break - invest in a headset that works for you!

  8. Set a Timer to Remind you to Move - this is important. It’s easy to walk around while working in the office. You have meetings, group projects, questions for coworkers, lunch breaks and more - that require you to get up and move. That isn’t the case when you’re working from home. One of the best tips we can give you is to set a time to remind you to move! Don’t sit all day - it’s not good for you!

  9. Fill your Water Bottle - stay hydrated! Especially now. It’s always important to drink water but for some reason it’s harder to remember to do so at home. Combat that habit by always taking a water bottle to your workstation to remind you to drink up!

  10. Make sure you have Snacks - you’ll get hungry. For those of you who are used to having a cafeteria on site or are used to lunch meetings - you’ll need to make sure to have something to eat at home. It’s an easy thing to look over but you need to stay healthy!

Hopefully our tips help make working from home a little easier!

Feel free to leave your suggestions below of things that you’ve done, bought or learned to help you work from home.
