Stitch Fix Subscription Box Review

Shopping can be hard for me - especially when it comes to fashion for young professionals in their 30's - I just can't seem to find anything. So, I finally decided to give Stitch Fix a try!

Does anyone want to shop at the mall anymore? No, seriously, does anyone? Maybe it’s the fact that I worked retail for 3 years and haven’t recovered yet but I do everything I can to avoid actually going to the mall to shop for clothes. That being said, I’m very thankful for all these adorable online boutiques that have found their way into existence. Shoutout to Vici Collection for being one of my top favorites. However, seeing as how I’m a young professional in my 30’s, I sadly can’t wear shirts that talk about brunch, coffee, and always being tired, to work. Though trust me - I really wish I could! My struggle with shopping for myself really revolves around finding work clothes! I’m not even kidding - name a store that is for young professionals in the 30’s... really though, if you know of one please leave it in the comments below because I struggle! And this struggle is what brought Stitch Fix into my life.

While venting to one of my friends, who is also a young professional, about how I can never find anything cute to wear, she told me she felt my pain - see I’m not the only one. She was also struggling with finding stores for people our age until her coworker told her about Stitch Fix: an online stylist subscription box. It didn’t take much to convince my to try it. I was beyond frustrated with hating my “adult” clothes, that I was willing to try anything. So, away I went!

First things first: you have to create an account. Easy enough right? Nope. This thing is intense! It’s the profile they’re going to select your clothes from so no pressure. Protip: fill it out by your closet because you will need to know your sizes. Shirt, dress, bottoms, bra, waist, shoes - they want to know it all. But they also take into consideration your height, weight, and build - which I really liked. It helps them better understand your body and how things may fit when they are given a detailed description.

Next on the style guide, your personal style. Do you like loose fitting or skin tight? Loud prints or simple style? Colorful or neutral? Neon or pastel? How do you like your denim to fit? Long, short, regular? Skinny, bootcut, wide? They want to know what your personal likes and dislikes are. Yes, you read that correctly - if there is something you absolutely don’t want to see in your box, there is a section for that as well.

The profile has more fields than the ones I’ve listed above (price preferences, accessories you like, pinterest board link if you have one) but you get the idea. The final section you fill out is a text box for you to write about yourself. They do their research and their research is to learn about you!

So, I filled out my profile, answered all their questions, and wrote the following in my “About You” section: I'm trying Stitch Fix because I'm 33 and there aren't a lot of stores that cater to my age group. Most of what is around me are stores for college kids and women in their 40's/50's. My friends would hands down describe my style as Boho. I’m looking for pieces that I can wear to work and hanging out with friends.

After selecting my delivery date - all that was left to do was wait...and wait...and wait because I put the delivery date for after all my summer trips and that was a horrible idea because Amazon Prime has ruined me for life.

Finally, after what felt like years of waiting my box arrived! I tore into it like a kid on Christmas because that’s exactly what it feels like whenever I get packages - Christmas. Apparently, it doesn’t matter to me who buys presents, I just like opening boxes.

Inside my box was the receipt, a note from my stylist, and 5 pieces of clothing. First things first, the clothes. I completely disregarded the envelope (rookie mistake) and went straight for the clothes. Instead I found a dress, a pair of jeans, a cardigan and two tops (see the items I got in my on the blog post cover photo). Right away I tried everything on. Love across the board. My stylist did an amazing job! The tops were boho, the dress was fit and flare (a signature on my Pinterest boards) and the jeans were dark wash, no holes, so I could wear them to work. I could easily wear all of these pieces to work or out with friends. Outside of loving them visually, they fit like a dream - even the jeans. Now, I don’t know about you but I personally have the hardest time finding jeans that fit me. I hate jean shopping so much that I own very few pairs of jeans. Leggings for the win. But these jeans fit me perfectly! They were so comfortable as well! I couldn’t believe it. The tops were flowy and flattering. The dress was perfection. I couldn’t have been happier with my box.

Before checking the receipt I decided to read the note from my stylist. Above and beyond is how I would decide my note. Instead was a very sweet note from my stylist explaining why she picked the items she did for me, along with photos of more outfit ideas for the pieces she selected for my box! I quickly folded the note back up and kept it for safekeeping - those additional outfit ideas would come in handy!

However, it was time to checkout the damage - let’s see how expensive this was going to potentially be for me. To my surprise, the prices were all very reasonable! The most expensive thing was the dress and it was still under $75. Everything was in my price range, so I would absolutely be keeping everything. Now, the way Stitch Fix works is there is a nonrefundable $25 styling fee. This you pay upfront. However, they apply the $25 to the items you keep. On top of that, if you keep all five items, you get 25% off the box. Therefore, with all those things taken into consideration, the whole box ended up costing me less than $200. With some basic math, each item in the box ended up costing me about $40 each. Not bad at all! High quality, perfect style, and reasonable price - winning all the way around. I’ve told so many of my friends about Stitch Fix and now I’m sharing them with you! I highly suggest you try them out and see for yourself! You only pay for what you keep - so what do you have to lose?!
