A quick trip to Seattle packed with activities to make it one to remember!
Who knew traveling in 2020 would be so crazy...thanks COVID! My husband has started traveling more for work again and you know I don’t pass up an opportunity to tag along to new cities when I can. The latest city I got to explore with him was Seattle and the quick 24 hours did not disappoint!
We flew in late on a Saturday night and took a quick Uber ride to our hotel downtown. We stayed at one of our favorite pet friendly hotels, The Kimpton Alexis. You can find Kimpton hotels in so many cities nation wide and they are all super pet friendly and don’t even charge a pet fee which is perfect because we take our two chihuahuas with us when we travel. I always joke Southwest should have a frequent flyer program for dogs because ours would for sure be A-list members! LOL!
We woke up and were too lazy to go out for breakfast for we used Ubereats to bring us McDonald’s...classic move on our part! After a delicious breakfast of sausage burritos and hash browns, we walked a few blocks to Pike Place Market. We got there right when it opened and even though they were not doing the classic fish throwing, it was a super cool spot to explore. My favorite find had to be the beautiful flower stands. I seriously couldn’t believe how beautiful and inexpensive all of the bouquets were. The dahlias were by far my favorite. They were as big as my hand and so picture perfect! I was so sad I couldn’t buy a bouquet to take home with me. Maybe my next visit I will snag one to enjoy in my hotel room for a long weekend! Make sure if you find yourself at Pike Place Market, explore everything it has to offer. I will for sure be back again for another visit to snack at all of the local vendor booths!
Next we were off to find the Insta famous “Gum Wall!” It is tucked away in a cute little alley next to the market. It was one of the coolest Instagram worthy photo spots but also probably one of the grossest I have seen! LOL! Make sure to bring your own gum to stick up on the wall, I did find a gum ball machine in the alley if you forget! I would suggest your favorite gum from when you were a kid because it will be a fun color! Did anyone else chew the cotton candy flavored gum that was half pink and half blue that would turn a terrible purple color? That one was my favorite! LOL!
After all of that walking and exploring I was getting thirsty. Conveniently in the same alley there was Pike Place Brewing so we headed there to grab a craft beer. I had a pint of the Third Story Series: Lemon Wheat. It was a lighter wheat beer with a nice hint of lemon to finish. The hubby had their Pike IPA which is an India Pale Ale. It was an easy drinking light beer to start the day.
Next we decided we wanted to enjoy some of what we heard was the best chowder and lobster rolls in Seattle. We took a couple blocks walk over to Pike Place Chowder and waited in a pretty small line. We had great timing because it grew really long about 5 minutes after we got there. We ordered a Maine lobster roll and the crab and oyster chowder. We were lucky enough to snag a table right outside the restaurant in their courtyard. When I say it was the best lobster roll and chowder I have eaten in my life, I am not exaggerating! The lobster was tossed in a light coating of mayo, lemon juice and finely chopped celery on a lightly toasted roll. The chowder was the perfect combination of crab and oysters with chorizo sausage, leeks, potatoes, tomatoes and their special seasoning. I could have eaten 5 more lobster rolls and a gallon of chowder!
After a quick lunch it was time for another beer stop! We ventured over to Old Stove Brewery a couple blocks away. We grabbed a table on their awesome outdoor patio that overlooks the water and ferris wheel. I ordered a glass of their Blackberry Sour which it brewed with over 170lbs of blackberries and it had just enough tartness. My hubby started with a pint of their Irrational Exuberance which is a hazy IPA which has notes of peach, apricot, mango and orange peel. We also ordered a cheese and charcuterie board which had delicious local cheeses and meats.
After taking in the views, we headed back to our hotel to check on “the girls.” This is the name we call our chihuahuas and Leanne has also started to refer to them with this pet name too!
For dinner, I made reservations at Japonessa which is a sushi restaurant with a Latin fusion flair. This was a recommended spot from one of our sweet followers Vanessa (@sheglowsandflows). I started with their miso soup which had tofu, shiitake mushrooms and seaweed. My hubby had their sunomomo which is a seaweed salad with cucumbers, sesame and a vinegar dressing. Next we moved onto sushi. I ordered the spicy crunch roll but asked them to not tempura fry it, instead put the tempura crunch on top. It had spicy tuna, avocado, cream cheese and it was topped with a spicy chili aioli and soy glaze. The hubby got the King Midas which has spicy tuna, cucumber, avocado and is topped with yellowtail, cilantro and jalapeño. Everything was super fresh and delicious! I will for sure be back when I visit next!
For a night beer we found a cute tap room called Locust Cider and Brewing tucked away down a flight of stairs on our way back to our hotel. They had a cute little patio area for some solid night cap people watching. Also side note, it took everything in me not to pet all of the dogs that walked by...stupid COVID etiquette! I had a pint of their blackberry sour (not as good as Old Stove) and my hubby had their red ale.
Lastly we needed a late night snack so we headed back to the gum wall alley. There is fun hideaway bar called the Alibi Room that makes killer brick oven pizza. We created our own pie with the classic pepperoni and mushrooms. It had the perfect amount of crispy char on the crust with the best blend of mozzarella and provolone cheeses.
After a fun filled day of exploring a small section of downtown Seattle, I have decided that 24 hours is nearly not enough time. I already told Leanne that I have to take her there for a long weekend for our next Cookie Adventure, whenever that might be! Fingers crossed it is sooner rather than later because we are both going through some serious BFF Cookie withdrawals.
I hope the next time you find yourself in Seattle, you can check out a couple of my finds!
Safe Travels!
