We already love Tula - so we decided to try out some more products! Read our thoughts below.
Let’s talk Tula Skincare Products. I’d like to start out by saying that I am not a dermatologist. I did my own research into the products I selected for this review based on what I believed would work best for me. This is my own personal experience. If you have specific concerns, issues or questions, please reach out to a professional.
First things first - my skin type. Moody teenager trying to find themselves while always having a serious attitude problem. That is how I would describe my skin. Now, if you’re looking for something a bit more...helpful...here we go.
When I turned 30, my skin decided to go from needing no attention at all, working well with others, being a true friend, to needing a ton of work! Let’s break it down. Official type - Combination, sure...if you mean so many parts of my face had a different temperment now, then yes. My forehead can get dry. The majority of my nose can be oily while the sides of my nose (nose crease...nostrils...that area) can either join the team and be oily or go off in their own direction and get dry…#whatthewhy. My chin I would say is normal, leaning toward oily. Nothing over the top but if I don’t use the correct makeup, my chin will break the foundation down. That’s just my t-zone.
Now, one of my biggest issues yet - the texture of my skin. Now, this is important, I do NOT have acne. I don’t get a lot of pimples, mostly hormonal breakouts from time to time. I do not have extreme discoloration. A little pink in the cheeks but it’s very subtle. From afar, my skin looked fine! Up close, I had bad textured skin - not pimples/acne. It’s so hard to explain because even when consulting with an online “advisor” when trying a new product - people tend to associate bad texture with acne. However, that’s not always the case. If you’re confused, try Google Images for some generic examples.
I truly want to make sure everyone understands my skin type because I don’t want to give bad advice here! Again, if you have specific concerns, always consult a professional.
That being said - here’s my personal opinion on the following products from Tula!
Purifying Face Cleanser - This cleanser was not for me! When I first started prepping for my review of these products I decided to try them out for a month to give them a fair chance. Not this one - I made it 3 weeks before I couldn’t take it anymore and abandoned it. The first thing I noticed was how the product was stiff and hard to move around my face. I would even try to warm it up between my fingers and I still struggled working with this cleanser. Then, it would weirdly ball up on my skin while I tried to apply it before slightly disappearing into my skin. To each their own though, I kept working with it. I’ve had difficult cleansers before, the application process wasn’t going to take me down. What did take me down though was the condition of my skin in those 3 weeks. 2 weeks in and I was not happy. The texture of my skin was starting to worsen, the redness in my cheeks was getting brighter, and I started getting a cluster of breakouts on my chin. Now, I’ve done this enough, where I know sometimes your skin has to do a detox when transitioning to a new product. So, I fought through. The breaking point came a week later when the cluster on my chin expanded and on my jawline I got a ½ inch bump that I couldn’t pop and was big, red, and painful. I was over it. Now, some of you might point out that I also tried 2 other new products and it could have been a reaction to those...fair point! But no, haha. 3 days after I stopped using the cleanser my cluster of pimples were all but gone - just leaving behind a flat red patch where they once were (kinda mad about that but hopefully it fades away) and the large jaw monster was still red and there but also diminished in size and didn’t hurt anymore.
#NoMakeUp Replenishing Cleansing Oil - this explanation is going to be short and sweet. It’s a good makeup remover. I do a double cleanse while washing my face, so I was really just looking for something that would effectively take off my makeup and not burn my eyes. This did just that. I wear mascara every single day and this took it all off every single night. It removed my makeup and I could open my eyes and take the beat to grab a washcloth before washing it off and no pain! Win, Win. It did its job and it did it well.
Dew Your Thing Oil-Free Gel Cream - before I even get into my review of the product itself I must say, this smells amazing! Not a reason to buy it but it’s a fun fact to know. Now back to the actual review. Though my skin is combination, it tends to lean toward oily so I like to use a gel based moisturizer. Sometime in my life someone (I honestly can’t remember who) told me that oily skin should use gel based instead of cream because cream moisturizers are thicker - so here I am today, still doing that. I will say, the most important thing to remember about this product is a little goes a long way! Now, people usually say that and then it’s not exactly true but in the case it’s very true! You do not need a lot of product at all! I made the mistake of using two pumps when I first tried it and that was too much for my skin - keeping in mind that your skin may respond differently. That being said, I love this moisturizer. It left my skin feeling so soft and refreshed - not greasy at all.
Glow & Get It Cooling & Brightening Eye Balm - this is ride or die for me. Calla and I are both obsessed with this eye balm. For our full review of this product and Tula’s Face Filter Blurring & Moisturizing Primer Click Here!
The important thing to remember as it pertains to skincare products is that everyone’s skin is different! What works for me may not work for you or vice versa but reviews help people decide if products are worth trying! Take time, do your own research and find what works best for you! Hopefully, this review can help you figure that out!
